Darth Maul is the only character from the prequels to make our Top 10 list. Generally not as well received by fans and critics they did have another great bad-guy in Darth Sidious and of course, young Darth Vader as Anakin Skywalker. Honorable mention will have to go to C3-PO and Obi-Wan Kenobi as iconic characters that didn’t make our list.
Disney has paid over $4 billion for the rights to the ‘Star Wars’ universe and that doesn’t even get them the original movies, they still belong to 20th Century Fox. However, JJ Abrahams directed ‘The Force Awakens’, the first of a new trilogy is opening to great reviews, so it is likely they will get their money back. When all merchandising is included the whole franchise has netted a staggering $30.8 billion since 1977.
10. Princess Leia
Carrie Fisher is back in ‘The Force Awakens’ with an updated Leia, her cinnamon bun hairstyle and and slave bikini remain iconic components of the original movies.
9. Darth Maul
Darth Maul only lasted one movie after being killed off in Episode 1, but many thought he was the best thing about that movie and his double light-sabre was the coolest in the whole franchise.

Although Luke Skywalker tends to be somewhat over-shadowed by the charisma of Harrison Ford’s Han Solo he is ‘Star Wars’ central protagonist and his showdown with father Darth Vader the franchise’s most iconic moment.
Although he died at 900 years of age at no point in the ‘Star Wars’ universe including all the books is it ever revealed what species Yoda is or where he originated from.
6. Jabba the Hutt
Leia’s strangling of Jabba was actually directly inspired by a scene from ‘The Godfather’ movie where an obese character named Luca Brasi is garroted by an assassin.
200 years old and a smugglers best friend, the idea for Chewbacca actually came to George Lucas from having his very large dog sit in the front seat of the car on road trips.
Everyone’s favourite loveable robot holds the distinction of being the very first character to appear onscreen in the original movie and alongside C-3PO the only character to appear in all the movies and is back again ‘The Force Awakens’.

Jeremy Bulloch who played the self-serving anti-hero says he modeled him on Clint Eastwood in ‘A Fistful of dollars’, even copying how Eastwood’s character handles his gun in the Sergio Leone movie.
