It is often said that we are living through a golden period for animation in the 21st century and animated movies definitely feature heavily on our ‘Top 10 Family Comedies’ list. ‘Frozen’ in particular seems to have swept the boards. It has become the highest-grossing animated movie of all time, $1.3 billion and counting, is beloved by small girls everywhere and has spawned a merchandising tsunami on top of that.
Top billing on this list, ‘Home Alone’ was a 1990’s phenomenon too. Released at Christmas 1990 it was a box office No 1 for 12 weeks and finally drop out of the top 10 until he summer of 1991. In fact, so popular was it, that the film’s success prompted the creation of a Hollywood verb: “to be ‘Home Aloned'”, meaning to have a film’s box office reduced by the impact of ‘Home Alone’.
